Loxley Academy begins at Grade 4 because younger learners in the foundation phase (Grade R–3) are still developing essential physical, emotional, and social skills that are best supported through hands-on, in-person learning. These early years focus heavily on:
- Fine and gross motor development
- Sensory exploration
- Play-based learning
- Social interaction
- Classroom readiness
- Early literacy and numeracy foundations
These are developmental milestones that are difficult to replicate in a fully online environment. Starting at Grade 4 ensures that learners are ready, confident, and developmentally prepared for structured online schooling.
Not at all. We may introduce foundation phase grades in the future — but only when we can offer a model that fully supports the developmental needs of younger learners. For now, we are focusing on the grades where online schooling is most effective and beneficial.
